Keeping a Watchful Eye:  The Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) is a voluntary government-business initiative designed to build cooperative relationships that strengthen the overall supply chain and the security of U.S. borders.

The C-TPAT initiative recognizes that United States Custom and Border Protection (CBP) can provide the highest level of security to the public only through close cooperation with supply chain businesses: importers, carriers, brokers, warehouse operators and manufacturers.

Through this initiative, CBP is asking businesses to ensure the integrity of their security practices and communicate their security guidelines to their business partners within the supply chain.

The C-TPAT ensures that, if a terrorist act against the United States resulted in our borders being closed or a trade embargo, imports could still enter the U.S. through C-TPAT certified facilities.
